Michigan World War II Legacy Memorial

John Maten is the current president of The Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial. Recently, the organization celebrated the groundbreaking of Phase 1 of the memorial, which is located in Memorial Park at 13 Mile and Woodward. John lives with Judy, his wife of 41 years, in Royal Oak. They have 4 children and 7 grandchildren.

John retired from General Motors at the end of 2018 after 42 years at General Motors. He was an Assistant Chief Engineer in transmission engineering. He began his career at GM Powertrain in Willow Run, the B-24 bomber production plant. He is currently the corresponding secretary of the Senior Men’s Club Birmingham. John is also involved as a coach and mentor for FIRST Robotics teams for elementary, middle school, and high school students.
